About us
Rachael Argo is a Society of Master Saddlers Qualified Master
Saddler. She was privileged to be able to serve her apprenticeship with Master
Saddler Andre Bubear who trained at the Household Cavalry and later became
Master Saddler at the Metropolitan Police Mounted branch in London, UK. He is
still the Master Saddler for the ILPH, at the ILPH Rehabilitation Centre,
Belwade farm where she was able to work with some of the top professionals in
the field of farriery, veterinary medicine, orthopeadics and physiotherapy.
During this time she was promoted to Head Groom and later became Assistant
Manager overseeing a yard of between 60 and 100 horses and up to 8 staff.
It became apparent to her that many of the problems if not caused by bad
saddlery and saddle fitting were certainly exacerbated by it so when offered
the chance to qualify as a saddler she jumped at it. The experience gained in
studying anatomy and movement sttod her in good stead when it came to assessing
horses for saddle fit. When Rachael left the ILPH in 2005 she was presented
with an award by HRH Princess Anne for her dedication to equine welfare.
Rachael also rides, her passion is Classical Dressage and the Iberian horse, in
particular the Spanish horse. She has a pure bred mare imported from Spain that
trevelled from Scotland to NS along with a Welsh Cob mare and three dogs.
Bruce Argo is a
reluctant horseman. Having been married to someone who not only works with
horses but has them as a hobby, he has been forced to learn a certain amount
about them. He has developed an extremely good eye for a horse and mucks out
like a professional. Over many years of observing the horse world, Bruce gained
quite an insight into the equestrian industry with all of its' little quirks.
He has now become the ' business' brain of Callan Saddlery.

is starting her saddlery apprenticeship with Rachael Argo. This involves a
formal four year training program which includes travelling to England to gain
her Society of Master Saddlers qualifications.
Michaela also rides dressage and has a good eye for conformation and movement
in a horse. She currently rides at third level and owns and competes her 11
yearl old paint horse, Rock. She is trained by her mum Brigitte Eisengruber who
trained and competed at National leven in Germany.
This year Michaela will be the Callan Saddlery sponsored rider, riding in her
new WOW Saddle.

How we got our name - The name Callan is
in memory of our first Great Dane. He was named Callanish after the standing
stone in the Hebridean Islands, but was always known as Callan. He was a truly
exceptional dog and we were privilieged to have known him albeit for only six
and a half years. He was a popular sight as he and his friends daisy the Donkey
roamed around Belwade farm and many visitors came to see him rather than the
horses. We now have his nephew 'Conan', one of our board of executives!
